ABOUT ME AND MY PORTFOLIO
My name is Marit Stockmann, born and raised on the island of Stord, but right now I live alternately on Stord, in Oslo and in Spain. I am social, creative, nice, caring, curious, hardworking, kind, active, energetic and impulsive, and certainly other qualities if you meet me.
For the last 20 years, before I started studying graphic design, I worked for many years in the power industry, first as an IT consultant; responsible for software, hardware, support and operation. Then I worked in the administration of the same company with information, system responsibility, service and development. In that job, I often wanted more knowledge about colors, fonts, photography, design and web development.
A few years ago I took the chance, and started as a part-time student in graphic design! At the same time I started at Visual Arts Education at Nydalen Art School in Oslo, where I have completed a two-year study in visual arts. I look forward to combining graphic design and art in the years to come.
This portfolio website presents the course assignments from my third semester as a Graphic Design student. These assignments include work within Interactive Website, Farm Fresh to You, Design History Folded Leaflet and Product Advertising. I have not included the learning activities from this semester, they can be seen under the student blog.
My Portfolio should represent me as a designer, artist and my own personal touch, but I still have a way to go before I have found what specifically characterizes my style. I prefer a simplicity design, where I maintain structure, neat lines but also organic shapes, and I think this is reflected in the portfolio.
I have parallel to my graphic design study also completed a two-year visual arts education, which has given me more perspectives in creativity, and probably “colored” several of my choices.
Below you can see parts of one my paintings, which I have used as inspiration for my color choices when coding this portfolio using html and css. Click for large image.
